Samsung's Flashy Galaxy AI Tools Won't Be Free Forever

The Galaxy S24 launch event was chock-full of new AI features and tools. Some of these AI processes, like Generative Edit, are very impressive and may convince people to buy into the Galaxy ecosystem. Just be warned—Samsung says that Galaxy AI features won’t be free forever.

A footnote at the bottom of each Galaxy S24 product page states that Galaxy AI features will be free until the “end of 2025.” The footnote was first brought to light in a now-deleted Twitter post by @AdamJMatlock. Some outlets claim that this footnote is only included in a Samsung Australia press release, but you’ll find it at the bottom of each U.S. Galaxy S24 series product page as well.

We didn’t hear the words “free for a limited time” during the Galaxy S24 launch event, so this comes as a bit of a surprise. If people buy the Galaxy S24 for its AI features, or if these features are explicitly mentioned in advertisements, there may be some backlash from customers in late 2025. We’ll have to wait and see how things shake out.

Galaxy AI features will be provided free of charge until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices … Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.

Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t specified which AI features will be put behind a paywall. The company may be referring to cloud-based AI tools, such as Generative Edit. Cloud processing comes with a ton of costly overhead, including servers, electricity, and high-speed internet, so a monthly fee isn’t too unreasonable. Processes that run entirely on the Galaxy smartphone, like live language translation, may be unaffected. Don’t take our assumption to heart, though, we could be wrong.

Pricing for Samsung’s AI tools is also unknown. And we’re not sure how the AI will be packaged. Samsung could bundle everything in a single subscription or sell each tool individually. Presumably, Samsung is still gauging customer interest and hasn’t finalized its plans.

Note that this change will only impact Samsung’s AI tools. Third-party features, including Google’s Circle to Search, are not controlled by Samsung. Of course, there may be plenty of free alternatives to Samsung AI suite by 2026.
