Jurassic Park: Survival debuts trailer at The Game Awards

One of the biggest surprises at The Game Awards was the announcement trailer for Jurassic Park: Survival. The game is, as its title suggests, a first-person survival horror title set in the world of Jurassic Park. The game doesn’t currently have a release date, but it’s set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

The game (or at least the trailer) appears to follow a scientist, Dr. Maya Joshi, abandoned on the overrun Isla Nublar. Maya must survive the island with whatever resources are at her disposal, evading the many hungry dinosaurs that now roam free. The trailer shows her evading (or attempting to evade) velociraptors, a dilophosaurus and the iconic T-Rex.

Given the kinds of enemies Maya is up against, she’s almost certainly going to have to evade the dinos, Alien Isolation-style, rather than fight them. According to developer Saber Interactive, each type of dinosaur will have its own behavior patterns and can adapt to Maya’s survival tactics. The game also features a fully rendered Isla Nubar, with many of the film’s locations recreated for the game.

Jurassic Park: Survival shares its name with an infamous canceled PlayStation 2 title that was based on the film Jurassic Park III. It also bears some gameplay similarity to 1998’s Trespasser, which also featured a woman stranded in a Jurassic Park location (though Isla Sorna, rather than Isla Nublar) who had to survive against the dinosaur threat.
